About Plate Note
Plate Note is an independent magazine of food photography, published four times a year. Each issue gathers writers, photographers, stylists, and the people who grow, bake, pour, and cook — and asks one question: what does this food look like when it is truly seen?
We are not a recipe website, and we are not a restaurant guide. We are a magazine, which is to say we are slow on purpose. Every story in these pages is photographed on location, in real light, with the patience that good food deserves. We believe a loaf of bread carries as much news as any headline, and that a market at six in the morning is a form of literature.
Our sections are the four desks where the work happens. Studio is where light, composition, and craft are examined. Field is where the stories travel. Craft is where hands do the talking. And Tables is where everyone sits down together.
Letters about the magazine, corrections, and pitches for the next issue are always welcome. Write to us through the newsletter — every letter is read at the table, usually with something baking.
